The Global Technology Distribution Council (GTDC) held its first Investor Relations conference June 4, 2003, at the InterContinental Hotel in New York City. The event was designed to be a targeted, intimate gathering of the buy- and sell-side financial analysts from the nation’s top investment firms that focus on information technology (IT) distribution and the channel.
At this year’s GTDC Investor Relations Conference, there were 88 attendees representing 53 individual investment firms. Vyomesh (VJ) Joshi from HP’s imaging and printing group was the event’s keynote speaker. Mr. Joshi delivered a presentation that detailed his division’s reasons for being loyal to the channel, providing the vendor’s perspective on the importance of distribution and the supply chain as a whole to the investment community members in attendance.
Seven GTDC member distributors offered presentations about their individual businesses, including Actebis, Avnet Inc., Bell Microproducts, Ingram Micro Inc., Pioneer-Standard Electronics, Synnex Information Technologies and Tech Data Corp.
Two panels were held during the conference which generated great interest among the analysts in the audience. One panel, “The International Landscape,” offered attendees insight into the international market and how distributors that are based in the U.S. compete with those headquartered abroad in their own trade areas. The second panel, “Partners In Profit,” was comprised of a variety of resellers who enlightened the audience on the many roles and responsibilities distributors have to their reseller customers and how the fulfillment of services, as well as products, makes them an invaluable sales partner.
