A Look Back at GTDC Vendor Summit 2007: Bridging the Gap
By Tim Curran
CEO, Global Technology Distribution Council

GTDC Vendor Summit 2007: Bridging the Gap was a resounding success!

Held Sept. 25-26, at the Fairmont Hotel in Newport Beach, Calif., the annual event – the 6th in our history – brought together 142 of the industry’s highest-level vendor and distribution executives to focus on key issues and opportunities. Attendee feedback in post-event surveys was highly favorable across the board, with “excellent overall event” and “looking forward to returning next year” as typical comments.

In addition to honoring the distribution industry’s Rising Stars and hearing from keynote speakers Dan Warmenhoven, CEO of NetApp, and Hector Ruiz, Chairman & CEO of AMD, the conference included panels and presentations that reflected the industry’s increasing momentum as well as ways to improve. In a session that captured vendor responses to an interactive survey conducted on site – later the content for breakout panel discussions – we gained first-hand perspectives on a wide range of important topics.

You can check out the responses to the interactive survey posted in the events section of the GTDC Web site. Among the findings, vendor attendees characterized distributors as “invaluable, a vital component of our business” and as “strategic alliances” in success. They overwhelmingly expect their distribution business to grow significantly in the months to come.

Another informative take on the the industry comes from IT distribution executives participating in the “Distribution 2.0” roundtable recently featured in CRN magazine. This forward-looking discussion with CMP channel editors took place immediately after the Summit.

While GTDC Vendor Summit 2007 certainly shined a bright light on the future of distribution, the focus remains on what can be done to strengthen partnerships. Maybe you have additional thoughts or suggestions. Feel free to e-mail me directly at tcurran@gtdc.org or send a message to info@gtdc.org.

We value your opinions and input!

Now there’s a way to know and capitalize on European IT distribution sales trends by country, thanks to the GTDC’s recently announced partnership with leading European IT market research company, Context.

“SalesWatch – DistributionSM” follows the success of a similar service, The NPD Group’s Distributor Track®, in the United States.

"This is the most comprehensive ? and most accurate ? reporting of sales-out data in the European channel,” said Jeremy Davies co-founder of Context. “The value in trend analysis is unsurpassed because the data is based on actual aggregate sales-out figures provided by GTDC member distributors throughout Europe's top economies."

The SalesWatch – Distribution service gives subscribers the ability to drill down into specific product categories sold by value-added resellers as well as retailers. Both units and actual revenue are tracked down to product SKU level, including critical price points intelligence and other trend information. Learn more.
